Tore down engine, diagnosis......................

I finally got my engine out and apart after Bonneville. It's dead. Diagnosis......broken crankshaft. Crank pin let go right through oil passage. At the time I thought maybe just the bearing on the drive side of the crank let go because engine was still running. Bearing was OK. Timing side flywheel was being forced to turn, opening valves and turning distributor. Rod still moves freely on broken pin. I also lost a circlip and the wrist pin was up against cylinder. Sleeve job had a short life. Bottom end was together for three years, held together for lots of runs. Bike ran great and went faster than ever before. Set a record. Gave it's all. Very proud of machine. Now I just have to fix it.

Stole this off Hot Bike Baggers website, they actually have some great Bonneville related stuff. This streamiliner shell is destined for a sportster powered chassis looking for the 300mph mark. I dont think it happened- I guess the salt has that effect on dreams...

I have given my Triumph it's own bedroom. Thats the way we roll out here in Palmdale. Making it sleep out in the cold garage just wouldn't be right.

Heres another cool article from 1969 Hot Rod. Check the contraptions. Looks like what BUB brings out nowadays. Where are all the bikes like these during Speed Week? All you racers with vintage bikes, bring them out to the REAL speed week. We are a minority there. Dont be content with running as an also ran behind a guy on a scooter. Lets bring the funk to the car guys and stop whining about how SCTA racing is too expensive.

MOFOKIN GYRO

Wes is running really consistent, within a couple tenths of a mph back-to back-to-back. If it were a bracket race he would be champ!! Maybe he'll go for broke and lose a head gasket? a gearing change? We'll see. Chuck didnt make a full run, maybe hes saving it, already having a record in the books??

Wes definately did "run the ton" this year....now he just has to pick up a little more mph for the record. Chuck is going fast too. It looks like the fairings making a small difference. Hes running 94 mph and he could have the record in his class. Right on!!Keep it up!! Remember what Christopher Cross said :"RIDE LIKE THE WIND"

Dyno Time

This was one nice Norton, notice that it is sitting on a mobile dyno. These guys brought it out to help tune their bike without having to do some runs to figure out jetting. They ended up giving up when the werent running 160mph or something-the guy remarked "Lets go back to the dirt (EL Mirage) where it's easy". We put Wes' bike on that dyno as well, it sure was cool seeing his old ass bike on something technical like a compuetrized mobile dyno in the middle of the pits at Bonneville.

Amal in the dark

We took the carburetor off this bike at 5:30am by flashlight when no one was on the salt yet. Had it on Wes' bike while waiting in the staging lanes- carb cleaner is cold on your hands that early in the morning!! It sure was cool cannibalizing a nice art bike to get a vintage racer to run on the salt...Thank you Kimura-san

El Bigotes Cub

Distict different look with the taller tires, but looks awesome and would be a cool street machine in this form.

Roosevelt Lackey

That would be awesome if more people were named Roosevelt. Lackey is still running at the lakes at 70 years old.. now he's on an MV Agusta production sportbike running upwards of 190mph

Chuck Taylors

Its amazing how the safety regulations have changed over the years. I guess they have to change with the bikes themselves, it still amazes me to see how crazy some of this guys were. From Rollie Free to this guy wearing chucks on the drag strip, to modern day top fueler harley guys wearing kevlar vests, I guess its a sign of the times.

Ready you ask? It's all up to L.A. Sleeve.

A photo to show Dale or Tom at tuesdays  meeting. I need to know if fairing looks legal for partial streamlining. Windscreen may need trimmed more for helmet. L.A. Sleeve is now going on seven weeks and their third try to sleeve my Cub cylinder. I highly recommend them of course. 

Knuckle Sandwich

Knucklehead powered streamlined roadster I believe..If you look close you can see what looks like a quick change, and the drive chain runs right into the ring gear which I assume had a sprocket welded or bolted on. Linkert carb, moon tank, butterfly dragster type wheel, push start simplicity!! This is hot rodding!!
